I love a good party. I love organising things that people haven't done before and giving people an experience over a 'thing' but with balancing the blog, my job, socialising and remembering to drink enough water sometimes you need a hand! Fizzbox is a group activities organiser all over the country, offering a range of activities and I was lucky enough to be invited along to try some of their Brighton based offerings.
For one of their Brighton activities, they offer afternoon tea on the regency Routemaster. The bus itself is a converted London bus is equipped with a prep area, hot drinks makers downstairs and groups seating upstairs. I loved the little touches of the Routemaster; from the original details of the electric lights, old-school ticket machine handing out our passes to the modern touches of metal holes to hold your prosecco and bespoke printed menus.
The menu from the bus is simple but delicious; afternoon tea and hot drinks, with a prosecco greeting if you want to start with the bubbles! The hot drink options were great, I went for a herbal tea but they had hot chocolate and coffee on offer as well.
The food was a mix of classic and modern afternoon tea. Designed to be served as a sharing platter, there was a great selection of both savoury and sweet treats for all.
The savoury food ranged from classic cucumber and cream cheese on white bread or honey roast ham and mustard on brown to smoked salmon and lemon with a caper butter on a mini bagel. I loved the mini bagel offering as something a bit different and the mini omelette was great as well.
The sweet options were as delicious as they were beautiful.
With four different options, there was something for everyone. My personal favourite was the rose and pistachio cake which was perfectly moist and on the right side of floral- which can always be difficult with rose! The macaroons were a great little addition and perfect for someone who likes a lighter sweet treat. The menu also stated that we would get 'a little surprise pot' each. As I looked around the bus there really was a range of surprises and my favourite definitely was the lemon cheesecake that we were lucky enough to get.
Not to spoil tradition, after a little while buttermilk scones were brought out alongside clotted cream and strawberry jam. There was a lot of food and if I'm honest, I was getting a little travel sick by this point. I did however manage some of the scones and they were great- crumbly with a sweet jam always goes well.
With the route going across Brighton (from Hove avenues all the way to Saltdean Lido) it was a great treat for a local Brightonian and a great gift idea for visitors. Unfortunately, we went by night and didn't see everything so it's definitely worth planning your trip around that! Also, the travel sickness. I have always been a sufferer of travel sickness and so eating/moving/Instagramming/photographing was always going to be risky, it did mean I ate slower (and probably less) than normal so for real sufferers it may be worth being prepared.
I would like to make a mention to the staff, not just the fizzbox hosts who were there to help with us but the onboard staff as well. The driver made a special speech at the beginning of the ride all about the bus, which was a great touch, and our server was knowledgable and a lot of fun as well. With a core to be envied, it's not an easy task serving drinks on a moving bus on Brighton's roads!!
