I really am lucky to live in Brighton, not only do we have a beautiful city and great places to eat but we also get the chance to host amazing restaurant festivals like OctoberBest; a restaurant festival featuring the best restaurants in the city offering £20 menus or deals from the 5th to the 21st of October.
I was lucky enough to be invited along to some of the previews of the menus this month and after trying the delicious menu at GingerPig (check out my review and the full menu here), I was invited along to try The Gingerman's OctoberBest offering.
The Menu
The menu itself is a perfect date night offering; a sharing platter for two with canapes to start, a delicious bread course and then a pork sharing feast as the main.
The menu champions the local farm's delicious produce and is a great experience to share with someone else. The menu costs £20 each and not only includes those three courses but also 2 glasses of wine each as well. If you haven't been to The Gingerman before, it is a small restaurant in the centre of Brighton and a true Brighton business and a treat-meal for many!

The Canapes and The Bread
The canapes were a trio of delights; a smoked duck, a sardine option and a beautiful cheese doughball with a cloud-like texture. I loved the mix of flavours there were and it was a great way to get the taste buds excited! Next, we had a bread course and let's be honest, no menu is complete without one! The warm bread was served with homemade salted and truffle butters, both of which were absolutely delicious.
The Main
As I said before the main is a real champion of their local pork. The pork loin was served individually with heritage carrots, a creamy Sussex cheddar mash and the perfect companion of pork, a caramelised apple.
The sharing platter is a combination of a black pudding ballotine topped with a spiral of delicious crackling, confit belly (which was succulent rather than the dreaded wobble which often puts me off belly) and a crispy croquette with a pulled pork inside. Alongside all of this was a delicious pork jus served in a small sharing pot which combined all the elements perfectly.

For obvious reasons, this isn't a menu for vegetarians. However, even if you are not typically a pork lover I would definitely give this a try. The meat was tender and flavoursome and all of the additions were beautifully flavoured and matched perfectly.
Full disclosure, the praline souffle pictured below isn't included in the menu. However, with these levels of saving I definitely recommend treating yourself to something extra at the end, this white chocolate ice cream was amazing!
